DC Adventures Day 22 (3.4.13)

Wow. What a day!

I was running a little late, but with the crazy amount of people in DC currently, it was okay.

I got to work, got my computer logged on, and grabbed my PopTarts. About that time, Mr. Hall came in and started asking everyone if they'd had breakfast or not. I told him I was good, and he went on asking everyone else. One of the guys hadn't eaten, and one of the girls agreed to go with him when he came up to me and said, "C'mon. One of you need to go with us!" ... so I said, "Okay! I'd love to join y'all". I quickly grabbed my debit card, and joined the group.

When we got to the elevator, Mr. Hall got in the "Members Only" elevator and turned around, held out his arm and said, "Oh no. Y'all will have to take another elevator. You're not members!" I laughed and said, "Welp, we better not tell anyone then!" and got on. (we've done this before). K hit the button for the basement, and Mr. Hall said, "Oh no. We're not going to the cafe. I'm taking y'all to the Capitol for breakfast!" !! I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I knew I was already super excited.

We took the subway to the Capitol, and Mr. Hall was a hoot the entire way. Let me tell y'all something - he may be 89 - and he may look like he's been to hell and back (prolly because he has - sometimes on a daily basis) - but the man is quick. And clever. And he loves making people smile.

We got to walk by the Crypt, and the breakfast room "For Members with Guests Only" was all set up schmancy restaurant style. We had the dining room to ourselves, and after some debate, I decided on the Pacific Coast Omelet. It comes with eggs (duh), tomatoes, avocado, smoked salmon, and jack cheese. I was a little hesitant about salmon in an omelet...but friends, it was worth the risk. That omelet was amazing, and almost as good as the company. Mr. Hall shared stories and jokes, I talked to him about my cousin, Jon Bailey, running for my dad's spot on the RISD school board in May, and even got to tell a story about many years ago when I met a man named Rory at a Waffle House in OkCity. We had a really good time.

When we left, we were asking if we could have a nap time because we were STUFFED. And it was 10:30...but Mr. Hall had to get to meetings, so, alas, we went back to work. *sigh*

Work was pretty easy-peasy, I made a March calendar for myself so I could see when we would be in session, and when all my peoples would be here. My parents will be here the 13-17, B will be here the 18-21, and my Commerce peeps will get here the 27th.

Next week's intern tour schedule is packed. We have at least one large tour a day. I'm not going to lie - I'm getting really nervous about giving a tour on my own. I know it will be fine, and I'm good at faking it when I get lost/forget something, but I'm still antsy. THAT will be a good blog update. :)

I left work at 6pm, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, took a long way home. Instead of cutting in front of the Capitol, I walked around the Library of Congress, which cuts right back in front of the Capitol. I know, I know. First world problems. :)

As I was cutting down Massachusetts Ave., I just happened to look down as I stepped up on the sidewalk, and noticed a lone glove, so I picked it up. It was covered in leaves and dirt, but as I turned it over...I realized it looked EXACTLY like the glove I lost...minus the lining. I was thinking that it would be really entertaining if both gloves had a tag on them with numbers that matched. I kind of brushed off the idea, figuring only one glove would come with a tag, and walked the rest of the way home (but had my mental fingers crossed in the back of my mind).

When I got to my room, I changed into my comfort clothes, and grabbed my other glove. I checked the found glove and it had a tag. I checked the numbers. Lo and behold, MY glove had a tag as well.

AND THE NUMBERS MATCHED UP EXACTLY.

THE PRODIGAL GLOVE HAD RETURNED!

I found it one block over, and one block down from where I had last seen it. I hadn't even walked past TMH the night I lost it...it made quite a journey without me. But now we're back together and it's all good. Just in time for the storm tomorrow night. And to think, last night I was upset because I forgot to get gloves at Target. Somebody's lookin' out! :)

Dinner was semi-stuffed manicotti, I "stole" some hummus from the dining hall for later. I watched some West Wing, did my 65 squats, watched some more WW, did 5 push-ups (yech), and watched some more WW...

It's 245am now and I've given up. I went ahead and showered so I can get 15 minutes of extra sleep tomorrow. Here's hoping sleep comes soon...

PS. My stupid Clearspot hotspot is STILL not working. UGH.

*Until Next Time!*
